Abstract

Culex mosquitoes sp act as disease vector Filariasis (Wuchereria bancrofti dan Brugia malayi), Chikungunya, and Encephalitis. Mosquito control has been done by using chemical and natural substance as insecticide. The aim of this research was to know insecticide effect of zodia leaves extract against adult Culex mosquitoes sp. The zodia leaves extract has been made in chemical Laboratory UMM on September 2008. The research was experimental laboratory, with true experimental­post test only control group design and has been done in Insectiside Test Laboratory Disease Reservoir Vector Reserach Centre Salatiga, Centre Java during Desember 2008, repeated four times. Zodia leaves extract were tested in concentration of 5x105, 6x105, 7x105, 8x105, 9x105, and 106 ppm. The sample were female mosquitoes reared in the Laboratory (Salatiga). The test was done by spraying zodia leaves extract into seven glass chambers each contain 25 adults Culex mosquitoes sp, then counted the dead mosqoitoes after 20 minutes. With aspirator each 25 mosquitoes were removed to the cup and observed on 30, 40, 50, 60 minutes, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 hours. The results were analysed by using Kruskal Wallis test toknow the differences of insecticide potency zodia leaves extract on each observation, and and Mann­whitney test to know concentration and observation time that have same or different insecticide potency. The most effective insectiside potency 22,8% were 7x105 ppm concentration. LD 50 was at 39,94x105 ppm concentration. The conclusion was zodia leaves extract less effective as insecticide against Culex mosquitoes sp.
