Abstract
Mother’s milk is the best and perfect food for infant, because it contains all nutrition appropriate to infants’ needs to grow and to progress. It also contains immunological substances, which can protect infant from any infection diseases includes upper respiratory infection. Purpose of this research is to know the difference of acute respiratory infection prevalence rate between infant 612 months in ages who given by exclusive breastfeeding with those given by formula milk in Cisadea Clinic working area, Blimbing Subdistrict, Malang City. Method of this research is observational analytical with crosssectional study. The amount of sample in formula milk group is 10 respondents and 24 respondents in exclusive breastfeeding group. Data is collected by using questionnaire. Further, data is analyzed by using descriptive statistical method and it is represented in the form of distribution frequency table. The existence of different upper respiratory infection prevalence rate between infant 612 months in ages given by exclusive breastfeeding with those given by formula milk is tested by using Tindependent test. The obtained result shows that there is significant difference between upper respiratory infectionprevalence rate on the number of ARI onset during 06 months in age, at 612 months, and also the duration of ARI onset between infant 612 months in ages given by exclusive breastfeeding with those given by formula milk in Cisadea Clinic working area, Blimbing Subdistrict, Malang City (P < 0.05). The conclusion is exclusive breastfeeding given at congenital tends to be able to prevent and to thin out the ARI onset, and also to shorten the duration of upper respiratory infection onset, than infant given by PASI (formula milk).
