Abstract

Kompas newspaper, the news brought in the editorial on August 18, 2007 until 1 September 2007 on the Expedition Papua Papua. The expedition is a journey Papua Kompas team of 13 reporters and a photographer to explore the eastern area of the Republic of Indonesia. Areas visited include Bintuni and Manokwari in West Papua and Biak, Jayapura, Nabire, Jayawijaya, Boven Digul, Merauke and Timika in Papua province Agats. The expedition is a continuation of previous expeditions with the aim of Mimika District lowlands. This district chosen as the expedition destination area because this area has two plains that have extreme differences in height, from zero meters above sea level (mdpl) to nearly 5000 mdpl. At Puncak Jaya for example, throughout the year without being influenced by the change of seasons, the snow will be easy to find. Therefore, the snow in several peaks of the Mountain Mining called 'Eternal Snow'. The team also had the opportunity to live with Amungme society, one large tribe inhabiting the mountains. With a research culture and nature of Papua, Kalman Muller, the team visited the village of Banti is still part of the territory this Amungme. Formulation of the problem is how much the frequency of appearance of the theme message of economic categories, politics, education and culture in Tanah Papua Newsroom Expedition Compass Edition August 18 until 1 September 2007. The study uses a quantitative approach that aims to find out how much the frequency of appearance of the theme message of economic categories, politics, education and culture in Tanah Papua Newsroom Expedition Compass Edition August 18 until 1 September 2007. In the application, the data content of each theme in the news section is inserted into a predetermined categorization. The data is then analyzed using frequency tables to know each category of research themes. Based on the frequency of occurrence research category indicators a. The frequency of occurrence indicators of economic categories there are 42 sub-headings or 35.28% of the 119 sub-titles. The frequency of occurrence indicator of political categories there are 21 sub-headings or 17.64% of the 119 sub-titles. The frequency of occurrence indicators Education category there were 24 topics or 20.16% of the 119 sub-titles. The frequency of occurrence indicator Culture category there are 14 topics or 11.76% of the 119 sub-titles.
