Language had important role in our life. By using the language, people can communicate and express their feelings, emotions and also their imagination. Like in a poem, people expressed their feelings, emotions and also their imagination by using the beautiful language. It might in the form of figurative language. This study was conducted to know the similarities and differences of figurative language between Duran Duran’s song lyrics “(Reach Up For the) Sunrise” and the Killer’s song lyrics “Mr. Brightside” by comparing them and also to know the most dominant figurative language used in those two songs lyrics. This study used descriptive research method, because the object was the song lyrics which were identical with a poem. Furthermore, this study used the objective approach, because it described the song as individual entity without studying the author’s life. The object of study was two song lyrics. First, Duran Duran’s song lyrics “(Reach Up For the) Sunrise”, which was a pop song taken from the “Astronaut” album which was released in 2004. The second song lyric was the Killer’s song lyrics “Mr. Brightside”, which released in 2004 and taken from the “Hot Fuss” album. The result of this study showed that both songs had the similarities and differences in using figurative language. The similarities between them were personification, metonymy and repetition. Meanwhile, the differences between those two songs were hyperbole, simile, symbol and metaphor. Furthermore, the most dominant figurative language used in those two songs lyrics was personification and repetition.
