Abstract

This study aims to explain what are the reasons and backgrounds of students interested in online gambling and what efforts students make so that they can continue to play online gambling. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods and the determination of subjects using purposive sampling. Data collection used in-depth
interviews, observation and documentation. The research findings show that students gamble online due to: 1. The profit factor, where with a fairly small capital they will get a large profit if they win it without making a heavy and tiring effort. 2. Environmental factors, namely the presence of colleagues who do inline gambling. 3. The Desire to Try factor that arises in a person because of something that makes him interested and then influences the mindset to do what he wants or at least just know and try. 4. Situational factors caused by pressure from peers, peers, groups, or the environment to participate in online gambling games. Efforts made by students to continue to play online gambling include borrowing money or debt from colleagues, besides trying to sell or pawn their valuables.
