Abstract

The research focused on small industry in Balikpapan city titled: Analysis Work-Force Absorption in Small Industries at Balikpapan City. The research aimed to figure out how the small industries development in Balikpapan City, also find out how much small industry and investment amount in Balikpapan could absorb work-force. According to statement of problem and theory base, there could be stated empirical hypothesis. They were: First, there suspected that small industry development had risen each year in work-force absorption in Balikpapan City. Second, there suspected that work-force and investment had direct influence to Balikpapan city s small industries. The research in theoretically concluded: the work-force absorption (Y) influenced by the small industries (X1) and investment (X¬2) amount. Small industries amount (X1) had elasticity coefficient to the work-force absorption 0.3825707454 it means that if the small industry increased 1 unit, the work-force would be increased 0.38 unit with assumptions that investment stayed. While investment (X2) elasticity coefficient to the work-force absorption was 0.0002322642924. When investment raised 1 unit, the amount of investment would rise 0,00023 unit assumed that small industries amount fixed. By the result, there showed that the work-force influenced by small industries and investment amount, while the small industries amount were large compared with investment since investment in small industries were full work-force model. According to the conclusion, in small industries there should any input addition where the amount of small industries and investment, where small industries coefficient was larger than investment, so there needed a productivity rise of small industries for the existed small industries since small industries were new sector with full work-force model. New work-field was also one effort to create work-force absorption to reduce unemployment.
