Media is a tool for language teaching and learning which can give a contribution to the teaching learning process. It can be used to increase and improve students’ ability in learning English especially in speaking. In this case using media in delivering the lesson can be a good solution. Besides, teaching speaking by using media is important because the students can more easily catch the lesson and be more active in joining the class. It also can motivate and arouse the students’ interest in learning English. Based on the statement above, the researcher wants to know (1) The kinds of media used by the teacher in teaching speaking, (2) The way the teacher applies those media. In this study, the researcher used descriptive research design and the subject of this study was an English teacher of the eight grade students at SLTP N 2 Batu Malang. To collect the data, the writer did some observation and interview with the teacher. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed the data and classified the data based on the problem. The result of this study shows that (1) the media used by the teacher in teaching speaking were: audio visual media that is television and visual media that is pictures, then audio media was language laboratory, (2) the teacher applied those media in teaching speaking. First, by using pictures story entitled “Cinderella story”. The teacher asked the students whether they knew the story about the Cainderella or not, then the teacher discussed the simple past tense, and always explained the difficulty vocabulary. After that the teacher gave some question orally to the students without seeing the text, and asked to them to make the summary of the story and then asked the students to retell the story. The second, the teacher using audio visual media, language laboratory including television. The teacher introduced the material about the Lion King movie, entitle “Circle Of live” and “Hakuna Matata” then the teacher explained the difficult vocabulary, the teacher turn the song twice after that she asked the students to write what they knew about the song and to retell the content of the song one by one. The third, by using picture series entitled “Activity in the Supermarket. As the brain storming, the teacher asked to the students whether they ever went to supermarket or not. Then, she explained the present tense, conjunction, and preposition before asking the students to make conversation based on the series of pictures. After that she asked to the students to presented in front of the class each group.
