Abstract

Play a game can encourage children imagination, add their memorial power and give them opportunity to analyze something. Besides, play a game can become an important moment for a child because they can explore the content of world by playing. The main attention to be is a pleasure circumstance. While its primary objective is not a success, but children happiness. There is cultural value in traditional game. One of areas that still keep these traditional games is Bangsri Village, where children are playing using any materials prepared by nature. Purpose of this research is to know, to identify, and to analyze the advantage of traditional games to the growth of children in Bangsri Village. The used research method is descriptive qualitative approach to obtain an accurate information about the characteristic of subject, instance or to describe phenomenon. The research subjects are children, who play traditional games, in Bangsri Village. Subjects are included in school age children. Researcher uses observation to collect the main data. Interview is also used to complete data in the field. For data analysis, researcher uses qualitative descriptive method to identify or to describe each game comprises the title of game, the number of player, the employed tools, traditional game category, and the manner to play it. While for benefit analysis, researcher interprets the result of each game description. From the research result, it can be known that those 15 traditional games are still played. Each game has some benefits, such as: for physical growth where children can train their strength of body, leg and hand, they can train body balancing and train their breath, so they will not tired so quickly. Then, for cognitive growth where children can learn to make a strategy, to concentrate, and to make a decision. Furthermore, for social growth where children learn to play along each other, raise solidarity, and learn to accept shellacking. The last is for emotional growth where children can express their emotion, train their brave, and children can be more confident. Based on the description above, it can be drawn a conclusion that traditional game has benefit for children growth included physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
