Abstract

Between physiology and psychological of a person, there is a tight relation which influenced each other. According to the latest finding about interaction between mind and body, there considered that 80% of all problems related with health caused or worsened by stress. The symptoms list were much. One of the disease with close relationship with stress is psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease and has relapse characteristic, marked by red spot in skin, with thick white scales. Until now there still no cure for psoriasis. There found that the major cause of psoriasis is stress. Stress at psoriasis caused worsened psychological effect caused the disease worse. From the background, the researcher considered stress management with relaxation technique was important to reduce stress at psoriasis sufferer. The research was done to find how far stress management with relaxation technique could reduce stress in psoriasis so that it could minimize the relapse or the disease get worse. The research was single case non experimental design using two subjects with certain conditions, the subjects were psoriasis sufferer with doctor diagnosis. Psoriasis which suffered by subject PR was psoriasis vulgaris, while for subject WK was psoriasis gutata. To find the increasing of subject’s stress level, there did assessment from pra­therapy till post therapy which was done with interview method and self­report for stress level and stress symptom, divided into 9 sessions. Where session 1 was assessment and pre­therapy, session 2 was progressive muscle relaxation therapy, session 3 was evaluation 1, session 4 was evaluation 2, session 5 was evaluation 3, session 6 was evaluation 4, session 7 was post­therapy, session 8 was advanced activity 1 and session 9 was advanced activity 2. The research showed that stress management with relaxation technique could reduce the stress of psoriasis sufferer so that it could minimize the relapse or worsen of the disease condition. it happened since relaxation technique could avoid or minimize the physical symptom caused by stress when body overloaded and finished the daily problems. So that psoriasis sufferer could manage their stress well. Stay calm, relax and controlled is the most important part from the ability to change situation caused stress with positive way. There was no attitude or behavior modification which in total way replaced relaxation as effective tools to reduce stress.
