Learning translation is very important and useful at the present time. However, translating is not easy as it is imagined. To make the process of translation easy the translator needs some learning strategies. Learning strategies are much needed to make learning easier, faster, more enjoyable, more self-directed, more effective, and more transferable to new the situation. The purpose of this study is to know what is the learning strategies used in translation subject applied by the fifth student of English department at Muhammadiya university of Malang. The study used descriptive quantitative research design because the objective was to answer the questions concerning to the current status of the subject of the study. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaires. The population of this study was the fifth semester students in translation subject of English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Malang that consist of four classes: class A, class B, class C, and class D. The total number of the population are more than 150 students. The sample of this study consists of 35 students which is class A selected as the sample by using cluster random technique. Based on the result of the analysis, the score of the students was 100 for compensatory strategies. The second strategy was affective strategy the score of the students was 93 for this strategy. Meanwhile, meta-cognitive strategies were the third strategy with the score of the students was 89.4. The fourth strategy was cognitive strategy with the score 88.6, followed by the social strategy with the score of the students was 84.5. The lowest strategy used by the students was memory strategy with score 78.75. Finally, it is found out the fifth semester students of English Department at Muhammadiyah university of Malang combine and used various strategies to support their learning in translation subject. The most frequently strategies used by the students was compensatory strategies. Almost all of the students realized the importance of learning strategies to improve their learning ability, they employ learning strategies that is appropriate for them.
