Abstract

Public opinion is crucial for government’s public relation departments. It is because they make action and correction based on public opinion. They also give advices to their supervisor concerning with all controversial activities or incident dealing with government. Journalist or reporters, as the one who make the public opinion though their media using fact, information and data, has to act objectively and neutrally, leaving groups interest and necessary behind. A reporter, following their journalistic code, is asked to work professionally in doing their journalistic job. Reporters also must recheck information given, give balance news, never mix between and opinion, and apply the not quietly hypothesis firs. However, an expert in media says that a balance reported news is a myth since a reporter is not a robot who sees a fact based on objective view. The news is a social fact that has been reconstructs in order to be told to the society. This re constructed story is the one that is showed in the media. The statement of the problem is “what is reporter’s opinion about the performance of government’s public relation department in Bojonegoro in giving information?”. The research method uses in this study is qualitative method descriptive approach. The subject of study is reporters, newspapers, television and radio which have their base in Bojonegoro and have work in the city for at least 1 year. The performance of government’s public relation department in Bojonegoro in giving information is judged to be good by the reporters. It is proven by the majority of the reporters give good opinion about it. It indicates that the public relation department has done their job well. Nevertheless, their opinion about how the public relation department, their opinion about how the public relation department maintains their good repetition is still depending on the problem at hard. The reporters regard that the performance in giving a good information script is still mediocre. They also think that the department has shown a good corporation with the reporters. The department is said to have understood that they have a mutual relationship with the journalist and reporters for they actually need each other. More ever, the facility in the government’s office is said to be insufficient. Their opinion indicates that the facility is below the standard required as an office of government public relation department. In addition, from the interview, it is concluded that the government’s effort in building a personal relationship with the media is already good. From the research, it is found that some of the performance is considered to be good and some considered being most good enough by the reporter. However, the general opinion of the reporter started that the performance of the government’s public relation department is quite good. Several factors that should be increase in items of quality are the facility and the human resource. Increasing the quality of human resources can be done by making/holding journalism seminar or holding a workshop about formulating news script. It is hoped that the increase of facility and human resources can lead to increase of quality of information given to the society or to the media.
