Abstract

Emotional problems are conditions that indicate an individual is experiencing emotional changes that can hinder, and make it difficult for a person to adjust to the environment and the individual's experience, if the problem is not handled it will have a negative impact on his mental health in the future. The purpose of this research on emotional problems is the influence of family functions on adolescent problems. This research is a quantitative correlational study using a scale of the Family Assessment Device (FAD) and Strengths and Difficulty Questionnaires (SDQ). The number of subjects as many as 170 students aged 15-17 years who are currently studying high school education in East Kutai Regency were obtained using multistage random sampling technique. Processing data in this study using a simple linear regression test. The results showed that there was a significant influence between family function and emotional problems, with a p value of 0.000 <0.05 for emotional problems and family function variables. As well as the contribution given by family functions to emotional problems reached 14.0%. This research implies that a family whose family functions run well will make individuals in the family more likely to have a healthy mental health.
