Abstract
Mathematics learning has been considered a difficult subject because students have been getting learning directly from the teacher, so that it indirectly affects students' reasoning abilities, this is also felt by junior high school students. Reasoning itself actually has a big role for students when it comes to math problems. If students have expertise in reasoning, it will help students find new concepts or combine existing concepts to create new concepts and can be used in mathematical calculations. To foster student reasoning, a learning method is needed that can help students explore their reasoning on problems. The learning method also makes students work actively while learning, therefore the GI method is chosen which is a cooperative method that emphasizes group cooperation and investigations on a problem. To make the GI method more effective in helping students' reasoning, the authors developed the GI method by providing open-ended questions. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of students' reasoning from developing the GI method. The research methods used is Research and Development (RnD). The research subjects were seventh grade students of SMP in Batu city. Data collection using validation sheets and learning outcomes. The results obtained are from the results of the t-test. From the obtained t_count value of -10.540, and Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000, which means the significance value is less than 0.05. This means that the data obtained shows a difference in the results of the pretest and posttest on the learning that has been carried out by the researcher.
