Abstract

Background : Health is a basic necessity for every human being, both physically and psychologically healthy. Especially the cardiorespiratory system which refers to the efficiency of the heart, lungs, and blood vessel system in sending oxygen throughout the body. Cardiorespiratory fitness can be assessed through maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) which will show the body's ability to send and use oxygen during physical activity. One of the factors that can affect the VO2max value is lung volume. In smokers, lung volume will be high because the alveoli surface is covered by nicotine contained in cigarettes so that the ability of diffusion is low. Research Objectives : To find out whether there is a comparison of the Maximum Oxygen Volume Value (VO2max) against adolescent smokers and nonsmokers. Research methods : The design of this study was cross-sectional. A total of 32 teenage smokers and nonsmokers samples were taken using the purposive sampling method. Measurement of the maximum oxygen volume (VO2max) using the Harvard Step Test Results : Based on the normality test showed abnormal data. The Willxocon test results have a result of 0.01 <α = 0.05. Conclusion : There are differences in the value of the maximum oxygen volume (VO2max) of smokers and nonsmokers.
