Abstract

One problems faced by our educational world was low quality and learning process reached by students. The low quality signed of study achievement which was lack of competence standard like curriculum, like strategy applied most in biology learning in SMP Negeri 1 Junior High of Kedungadem which focused on teacher (teacher center), where the teacher was the center of learning activity in class, so that the teacher in learning still main source for the study. It is in indirect ay would cause the student lack of activeness, so that students’ activeness in learning couldn’t be seen since the students lack of role along the learning. To overcome the matter, there needed research about learning application which could increase motivation and study achievement. One of them by cooperative model using Numbered Heads Together (NHT) Model. Research kind was classroom action research, the research did in two action cycles. Successful indicator could be seen from motivation increasing and students’ study result from cycle I – II. Place and time in research was done in May 24th – June 4th 2010 in SMP Negeri I Junior High of Kedungadem. Target in this research was students of grade VIII-G consisted of 29 students. Data collection method used polling, individual test, field notation and observation sheet. Data analysis for motivation polling using motivation criteria percentage, while study result analyzed using study completeness. The study completeness was fit with school completeness statement, which was ≥70. Accordint to the research there could be found that there was motivation increasing and motivation result of cycle I into cycle II with percentage 44.8 % increased into 75.9%. the increasing of study result from cycle I complete in 62.1% with average point 68.6 increased into cycle II, the complete study result of students reached 82.8 % with average point 80.3. From the research there could be concluded that using NHT Model could increase motivation and study result of students’ of grade VIII-G SMP Negeri 1 Junior High of Kedungadem. Suggestion from the writer was NHT learning model needs to apply by teacher to increase motivation and study result.
