Abstract

This research is motivated by a decline in PISA results which ultimately wants to push students in a high order of thinking skills or HOTS as educational development in Indonesia. Based on this problem, student text-book is one of the important sources of learning and a guide to the learning process should be oriented to encourage students to think in higher levels. This research aims to know the high order of thinking skills in student text-books of fifth-grade elementary school students, especially on theme 6, theme 7, and theme 8. This research uses qualitative research and literature study methods. Data collection was carried out by reviewing references on indicators of high order thinking skills connected with the presentation of student text-books. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the fifth-grade elementary school students' text-books theme 6, theme 7, and theme 8 are dominated by activities oriented towards high order thinking skills with a percentage on theme 6 where 80% of all HOTS indicators. Meanwhile, for theme 7 and theme 8, there were 72.8% and 76.1% of all HOTS indicators. However, the activities that are un-oriented towards developing high order thinking skills play an important part to support HOTS activities where activities from C1-C3 become a process of students towards their high order thinking skills.
