Abstract

The Boko Haram conflict that has occurred since 2009 in Nigeria resulted in a food insecurity. WFP as an international organization finally intervened to help the food insecurity that Nigeria. In this study, the researcher examines how the role of the World Food Program or WFP in dealing with the food insecurity caused by the Boko Haram in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the aim of this study is to analyze the role of WFP as an international organization focused on food aid in overcoming the food insecurity in Nigeria caused by the Boko Haram rebellion. Concept used in this study is the role of international organizations proposed by Clive Archer; they are the function of instrument, tool, and forum. This research used descriptive method with library data collection techniques. The research results are that WFP has played its role as an instrument in quelling food insecurity through emergency operation programs. Meanwhile, the role of WFP as an actor has been showed by community welfare development through cash-based transfers in the states of Borno and Yobe. However, WFP has not yet specifically proven its role as an arena to overcome the food crisis in Nigeria. WFP's challenge in resolving the food crisis in Nigeria has been hampered by the Boko Haram terrorist movement. In the end, the problem of food insecurity will be difficult to resolve as long as the ongoing conflict that engulfed the country because this will hamper the performance of the International Organizations that want to resolve the food crisis.
