The social environment greatly affects one's life attitude, because most people depend on the environment for their lives. When the environment in which they live is no longer felt to provide hope of a guarantee of the future, it will cause a reaction which Max Waber calls social action. The fatalistic attitude felt by Javanese transmigrants from Basarang towards agricultural products (especially rice plants) resulted in many residents leaving Basarang to look for new life in other areas, especially in Palangkaraya City. Whether the departure of Javanese transmigrants from Basarang has anything to do with Geertz's opinion which says that the work of farming is "despicable" work. Therefore this research aims to know; (1) How do Javanese Transmigrant residents from Basarang interpret work? (2) What are the motives of the Javanese Transmigrant Citizens from Basarang to settle in Palangka Raya City? This research is a descriptive qualitative research. This type of research uses a phenomenological research model with a social definition paradigm approach. Determination of subjects and informants in research using "purposive sampling technique". The collection of data used in this study are observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, as well as the analysis of the data used in this study using Coleman's rational choice analysis. This study concluded that; (1) The Meaning of Basarang for Javanese Transmigrants from Basarang, firstly agriculture has been unable to guarantee family life and an uncomfortable environment, while the meaning of Palangkaraya City according to their understanding is very promising in meeting the needs of life and the future of their families. These opportunities are in the form of meeting work needs, meeting educational needs, security needs and environmental comfort, and meeting the needs to develop themselves (self-actualization). (2) The motive for the choice of Javanese Transmigrants from Basarang to settle in Palangka Raya City is inseparable from the meaning of workers in Basarang and the Meaning of Employment in Palangka Raya. The work in Basarang, according to them,no longer fulfills their expectations for a decent life, while the City of Palangka Raya has the potential to realize these desires (their life goals). This research also recommends among others; (1) The implementation of the transmigration program needs to be continued, because this program is needed to improve the welfare of the people and to build a balanced distribution of the population throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. (2) The importance of comprehensive coordination between the sending and receiving Department of Manpower and Transmigration (DISNAKERTRANS). This comprehensive coordination is needed to build the readiness (DISNAKERTRANS) of the sender and (DISNAKERTRANS) recipients. (3) Government policy making at the transmigration location needs a more comprehensive study, so that after implementation it will not have a negative impact on other important sectors.
