Abstract

Background: Indonesia is among the 30 countries with the highest burden of MDR TB in the world with an incidence of 32,000 cases in 2015. Patient compliance has the primary function of preventing the incidence of MDR TB. Compliance can be increased with the family support. The family is thought to have an important role in the treatment of tuberculosis patients in the form of support and attention. Method: This research is a qualitative study of literature. Research reports are obtained through the PubMed, Embase, Medline, and ProQuest. The research report obtained will be eliminated using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Obtained 11 research reports that fit the purpose of this study and passed the selection. The analysis showed that there were 9 studies which stated that there was a relationship between family support with tuberculosis therapy adherence and the success of treatment, while there were 2 studies which stated that there was no relationship between those variables. Conclusion: The role of family and patient compliance have an influence on the incidence of MDR TB. The family has a role in providing emotional, information, accompaniment, instrumental, and financial support to improve patient compliance undergoing therapy. This compliance prevents the failure of TB therapy, so that the incidence of MDR TB can be prevented.
