Abstract

Nowadays, giving English to kindergarten is very common and also very important to improve the quality of education. Teaching English for kindergarten students are not emphasized on the communication, structural building sentence or grammatical sentence but it is focused on giving the basic knowledge in English language. Teacher must be able to use various techniques to make the students more interested in learning English. Besides, the teacher also must be able to use the techniques that suitable with the kindergarten student’s abilities to understand. The purposes of this study were: (1) To find out the Teaching Technique which employed by the teacher in teaching English at TK. Anak Saleh Malang and (2) To know the implementations of the techniques in teaching English at TK. Anak Saleh Malang. This study used descriptive qualitative methods. The writer used the teachers of Kelompok Bermain B-3 class as the subjects of this study since they have a good qualification in teaching English and applied certain technique in English teaching. The instruments used to gather the data were observation and interview. The data in this research were collected during the teaching learning activities in the classroom by joining four times classroom teaching to observe the techniques used in teaching English to kindergarten students. Then, interviewing teachers with questions concerning with the techniques in teaching English. The results of interview were then transcribed in the written form, so it is easier to analyze. All the data that had been collected was analyzed by describing the data in the form of field notes from the observation which describe about the technique in teaching English. Then, identifying the techniques in teaching English from the data interview. And third was drawing a conclusion from the observation and interview data. The findings of this study shown that there were three kinds of teaching techniques used by the teachers of Kelompok Bermain B-3 TK. Anak Saleh Malang in teaching English to kindergarten. Those were: (1). Games (a) Translation-Competition, (b) Instructions, (2) Drill and (3) Song. The Games (Translation-Competition) was used to set up the competition activity among the students. There were two kinds of Games (Instructions) which implemented in Kelompok Bermain B-3, those were: Games (Instructions-Physical activities) and Games (Instructions- Coloring). In Drill, teachers asked one of the students to say something and the others repeated. In implementing Song, teacher gave a children’s song to the students. Actually, students were already familiar with the song but she gave an English version of the song.
