Abstract

Every child with special needs has different problems both physically and mentally. Mentally retarded children have intellectual issues where the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of mentally retarded children is below the average. So it would have a problem with the success of disabled children at school. The purpose of this research is to know the learning styles of mentally retarded children at SDN Sumbersari 01 Malang. This research is a case study in mentally retarded children with the initials HK. The informant in this study was the principal, the class teacher, the special companion, and shadow teacher using the data collection techniques of interview, observation, and documentation. Data validity test using technical and source triangulation. The research analyzed the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic styles in mentally retarded children. The research has shown the visual learning is the mentally retarded children's learning style (HK) in SDN Sumbersari 01 Malang. The dominant mentally retarded children have visual learning styles that are scribbled, the learning material should be visible, interested in the picture, and should see the teacher's expression while studying.
