This study aims to determine the relationship of social comparison direction with teenage consumer behavior. The hypothesis in this study were adolescents who make upward social comparison (upward comparison) high konsumtifnya behaviors while adolescents who make downward comparisons (downward comparison) low konsumtifnya behavior. This study was a quantitative correlational study using nominal data for social comparison direction and interval data for consumer behavior. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling with data analysis using biserial correlation technique. Try Out performed involving 40 subjects with grade 1 MAN I Malang. Calculation of the validity of using the product moment formula, while the reliability test using Cronbach alpha technique. After a try out, made the spread of the scale for the study on April 28, 2006 at the SMU 5 Banjarmasin class 1 with a sample of 80 subjects. Through data analysis found that RBS = 0, 831 and p = 0, 000, which means that teenagers who make upward social comparisons (upward comparison) high konsumtifnya behavior, while teenagers who make comparisons to the bottom (downward comparison) low konsumtifnya behavior. Thus there is a very significant positive relationship between the direction of social comparison with teenage consumer behavior.
