Abstract

English is one of the foreign languages that has been learnt through out the world. Beside that, English is used for communication in the world. As foreign learners of English, the students are interested in learning all about the English speaking people in their lives. Then, English is also used as a tool developing science, technology and culture. In learning English there are four skills involved in it. They are listening, writing, speaking and reading. The research aims are to know the techniques to teach young learners, to know the advantages and disadvantages used by the teacher in learning English. The researcher used descriptive research design. Moreover, the subject of this study was the English teacher and students of elementary school Mulyoagung 3 Dau Malang. The instruments used in this study are observation, interview and questionnaire. The result of the study are the teacher using many kinds of techniques. The techniques are, retell songs and games. Games are puzzle, flashcard and guess give advantages for the students because they are easy to understand the materials. Retell give disadvantages for the student because they are have limited vocabulary. The implication from the finding indicates that the English teacher should increase their professionalism, so that they can improve the quality of English teaching and learning process. The finding of the study indicated that teaching English at elementary school mulyoagung 3 Dau Malang is not good still needs to be improved.
