Abstract

Causes of accidents in the industrial world dominated by human factors with the percentage of 80-85%, for the prevention of work accidents with human factors approach needs to be done. The attitude is one personal characteristic that becomes most important determinant of industrial safety and accident prevention efforts. Attitude toward safety is learned predisposition to respond consistently well supported or not supported in some way working conditions in which relatively free of the risks, hazards, injuries, and illnesses. Although attitudes are important, will become ineffective if the company's safety climate was not conducive. Safety climate is the perception of management commitment and employee participation or involvement itself in conducting business of industrial safety and accident prevention in the workplace. This study aims to determine the relationship between safety climate variables (safety climate) with the attitude towards safety (safety Attitude). In this study, is a non-experimental research design in which the variables to be measured can not be manipulated and the sample can not be encrypted because there are inherent properties of these variables are not allowed to be manipulated. The population in this study were all employees of PT. Industry Parna Kaltim, Bontang, East Kalimantan, which amounted to 217 employees. While the sample used by some 70% of the population that is 152 employees, who then by using the technique of sampling divided proportionally in each department. Data collection technique using a scale that is the scale of safety climate and safety attitude scale. Statistical technique used to analyze the data is the product moment correlation technique analysis techniques to determine the relationship between two variables that have a data type interval. From the results of data analysis known error probability value (p) = 0.000, which means that the test results are highly significant statistically. While the value of correlation coefficient (r) = 0.490, indicating a link between these two variables are trending positive. It can be concluded that there is a positive and highly significant correlation between safety climate variable with variable attitudes toward safety. The effective contribution to the safety climate variable safety attitude amounted to 24%.
