Abstract

Learning has a very fundamental element of students and teachers as subjects. Students in learning will be influenced by learning motivation. There are two factors of learning motivation.That are internal and external factors. The internal factors are included of mental health, interests, confidence and commitment. The external factors are consists of the school environment, family, friendship and learning atmosphere. This study aims to describe students' motivation to learn mathematics. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach. The data source is students of SMP Negeri 3 Arjasa Sumenep. The data is obtained by filling out the questionnaire sheet to find out the category of students' motivation to learn mathematics with 36 items. The measurement of each statement uses a Likert scale, namely: 1) strongly disagree; 2) disagree; 3) doubtful; 4) agree, and 5) totally agree. The results showed that the mathematics learning conducted by students was an average of internally orientation goal with an average of 4.01 categorized as very good, extrinsic orientation goals with an average of 3.78 categorized as good, the value of assignments with an average of 3.98 in the good category, the control of trust for learning with an average of 3.87 in the good category, confidence with an average of 3.66 in the good category, and the level of anxiety with an average of 3.64 in the good category. The overall indicator of motivation to learn mathematics is 3.82 in the good category.
