Abstract

Background : Thrombus enhancing Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is responsible for the highest mortality rate. Prevalence of the Acute Coronary Syndrome is continuously increasing especially in developed countries. One of the causes is the high level of oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) damaging endothelium so as to generate thrombocyte aggregation and clinical manifestation of Acute Coronary Syndrome. Purpose : This study aims at proving the effect of ginger as thrombocyte anti­aggregation in white mice treated by fatty diet by measuring bleeding period, coagulation period, and the amount of thrombocyte aggregation cells. Method : This study was conducted by means of experimental design by using the post­test control group design. Twenty five mice were divided into five groups under two month treatment, namely negative control group with non fatty diet, fatty diet (positive control), + 0.055 ml red ginger extract fatty diet, + 0.167 ml red ginger extract fatty diet, and + 0278 ml red ginger extract fatty diet. Result : The result of the study showed the increase of bleeding period (p = 0.000), coagulation period (p = 0.000), and the decreasing amount of thrombocyte aggregation cells. Conclusion : To conclude, red ginger extract (Zingiber officinale) can inhibit thrombocyte aggregation.
