Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the simple sentence patterns and the frequency of occurrence of each simple sentence pattern used in vacancy advertisement at “Jawa Pos”. A descriptive research was used as the design of this study. Based on this method this study attempts to describe the statistical calculation work in finding the frequency of occurrence of simple sentence patterns. The source of the data of this study is “Jawa Pos” vacancy advertisement which were published on Saturday and Sunday, 2nd and 3rd December 2006. The data were collected, first by buying the “Jawa Pos newspaper” which were published on Saturday and Sunday, 2nd and 3rd December 2007, reading the data comprehensively, selecting the data which were relevant with the discussion, and the last is grouping the data based on the simple sentence patterns. The analysis of this study was limited to the frequency analysis, grammatical, and syntax analysis. The analysis based on the classification by the simple sentence patterns that consist of 5 simple sentence patterns. They are SV (subject and verb), SVC (subject, verb, and complement), SVDO (subject, verb, and direct object), SVIODO (subject, verb, indirect object, and direct object), and SVOC (subject, verb, object, and complement). There are 18 vacancy advertisements from the two editions of Jawa Pos. From the vacancy advertisements, the researcher found 47 simple sentences which different pattern.The result of this study shows that the simple sentence patterns used in vacancy advertisement at “Jawa Pos” are the frequency of simple sentence “SV” (8.5%), the frequency of simple sentence pattern “SVC” (42.5%), the frequency of simple sentence pattern “SVDO” (36.2%), the frequency of simple sentence pattern “SVIODO” (2.2%), and the frequency of simple sentence pattern “SVOC” (10.6%).
