Abstract

In 21st century, science process skill in students must be trained and developed in the learning process. Science process skill needs to be developed in education because it is the basic competence for developing scientific attitude, skills in problem solving and can form creative, critical, innovative and competitive students in global competition in the society. The common problem of applying science process skill that is found in schools is that there are no practical activities that has been held because the teaching tools, the materials and the learning plans are not supportive, so the students only get the theory without knowing the detail. The type of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR), using descriptive which contains two cycles at the time of the research. The research was conducted in class VII in SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu in January 2020. The subjects of this research were students of class VII SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu, in the second semester of the 2019/2020 school year. The assessment of the six aspects was taken from the data obtained from the instrument sheet to improve science process skill and learning outcome. The result showed that the average value in the cycle I obtained the increasing value of science process skill by 71% which was higher than the pre-cycle with a value of 59%, while the learning outcome in the cycle I obtained an average value of 72% which was higher than the value of the pre-cycle of 59%. Moreover, the average value of science process skill in cycle II increased by 79%, higher than the cycle I which was only 71%, while the average value of learning outcome increased by 87%, higher than the cycle I which was only 72%. Based on the result, the conclusion of this research was that learning through practical activities can improve student learning outcome at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu
