Abstract

The aims of this research were to dig out: (a) intercultural awareness developed by sixth grade student teachers in teaching English for young learners and (b) the reasons of developing intercultural awareness by sixth grade student teachers in teaching English for young learners in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The researcher used qualitative research method to analyze intercultural awareness developed by sixth grade student teachers on their teaching learning activities. The researcher also collected the data through interview, observation, and document analysis. The result showed that intercultural awareness competence were developed in teaching and learning activities, especially in incresing the students' intercultural awareness and enhancing their intercultural understanding. Moreover, intercultural awareness competences have been developed not only by integrating it in the lesson plan, but also by implementing it in the classroom.
