Abstract

The research based on lack ability of short story writing in students of grade X MA Muhammadiyah 1 Senior High School of Malang. Observation in MA Muhammadiyah I Senior High School Malang showed that students understanding in Short-story writing material was still low. The indication of students’ lack ability in short story writing could be seen from the low quality of writing, lack of activity in short-story learning, and lack of motivation in short story writing. To increase students’ ability in short story writing, there needed correct learning media. That’s why the writer used clip video media. Short story writing learning using pop music clip video media aimed to develop language skill, enjoying, understanding, responding, and producing literature consisted of short-story. There hoped that from this learning, students would be more active and creative in short story writing. The research was done using qualitative approach. Design applied was class action in MA Muhaxrnnadiyah 1 Senior High School of Malang, while research subject was students of grade X MA Muhammadiyah 1 Senior High School of Malang consisted of 26 students and Indoneasia language and literature teacher. Research data consisted of teacher and students’ grade in short-story learning using clip video media. Data collected was analyzed with qualitative and quantitative method to find out the progress in short-story writing ability of students. Research showed that by using pop music clip video media, students’ ability in making short-story structure, developing short-story structure, developing dialogue, monologue, naration, description, and perfect spelling writing in short story writing increasing each cycles. Short-story written got better. According to suggestion which could be stated by the researcher and could be considered to maintain the learning process, teacher as educator should be more creative and innovative in developing learning media to increase students’ ability in reaching a learning competence.
