Abstract

The plant need vitamin in a growth process, one of vitamin that needed of plant in a cell division process was a vitamin B1. Rice water or often dubbed as leri (in Javanese) the color was milky white, it shows that protein and vitamin B1 there were many a lot of rice also scraped. So that protein and vitamin B1 that contains a lot of leri water or rice water. Beside vitamin, timing of cell division important is needed because in this stage of chromosome characters can be observed clearly. The aims of this research were to know the effect of rice water on mitotic index based on time of cell division in a root of the shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.). This type of this research was an actual experiment with a research design post test only control group design. The sample of this research consist of 24 of 12 treatment groups of two replication. The data analysis technique used two way ANOVA with significance level of 5%. The result of this reserach indicated that there was an effect of giving the rice water based on time of cell division in the root of Allium ascalonicum L. which is indicated by the probably value of 0,000 <0,05. The highest average index mitotic was found in rice water in the third at 06.00 o’clock with an average of 66.46%. Utilization of the result in this research was the influence of rice water on mitotic index based on cell division in a root of the shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) as a learning media appropriate of cell division material in grade XII SMA/MA at KD 3.4
