Abstract

The salt business is often carried out by coastal communities as a livelihood to meet their daily needs and the income of farmers is very important for the lives of salt farmers. The phenomenon that is happening is that some farmers who use geomembrane technology in producing salt obtain different production results than using conventional systems. This study aims: 1) Knowing the differences in the salt production process using geomembrane technology with conventional systems in the village of Bunder; 2) Knowing the difference in total production costs and income of salt farmers using geomembrane technology with conventional systems in the village of Bunder. Sampling in the study used disproportional stratified random sampling. The type of data used is primary data. The analytical methods used are descriptive analysis, cost analysis, revenue analysis, income analysis, and Independent Sample t-Test analysis. The results of the research is : 1) The difference in salt production using geomembrane technology and conventional systems, namely the use of a mat on the crystallization table; 2) there is a difference in total production costs and income in the salt production process using geomembrane technology and conventional systems. The average difference in the total cost of the salt production process using geomembrane technology and conventional systems is Rp.1,005,128 / hectare in a single production while the difference in average income of salt farmers using geomembrane technology and conventional systems is Rp.11,413,162 / hectare. The main reason salt farmers who use conventional systems do not switch to using geomembrane technology is the amount of costs incurred.
