Abstract

Adolescence is the age where someone is looking for self-image, so adolescents often try to identify themselves through searching for models from other people. Adolescent self-image is often accumulated in a concept to present themselves physically. One factor that influences self-image is physical state. So that young women in supporting their physical appearance need make-up. The make-up function can be categorized psychologically as camouflage, which means that individuals use make-up to cover up their shortcomings, and the make-up function as seduction, which means that individuals use make-up to improve their appearance. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the make-up function as camouflage and the make-up function as seduction on self-image in young women. This research is a correlational quantitative study using accidental sampling data collection techniques. The instrument used is the scale of the make-up function as camouflage and the make-up function as seduction and self-image scale with a Likert scale model. The subjects in this study were 203 female students in Malang. Data analysis in this study used multiple linear regression. The results of the research conducted show that the make-up function as camouflage has an influence on self-image with a Pearson correlation value of 0.446 and the significance (Sig.) Of 0,000 while the make-up function as seduction also has an influence on self-image with a Pearson correlation value of 0.228 and the significance (Sig.) 0.001.
