Abstract

Meso-scale combustor is micro-scale combustion where fuel and air are mixed in the evaporation section. This study aims to stabilize the flame of a gas fuel (butane) in the meso-scale combustor. The meso-scale combustor in this study is composed of an evaporation section, a separating segment, a flame holder made of duralumin material, and an expenditure segment that uses quartz glass. Experimental testing produces flammability limit curves and flame visualization. The formed flammability limit is in the mixed zone at an equivalent ratio of 1.0569 - 1.8439, and the reactant flow velocity in the meso-scale combustor is reached at 19.258 cm / s - 52.8014 cm / s. The flame becomes wider and thicker as the reactant velocity increases with a constant equivalent ratio and the flame gets thicker as the ratio increases with the constant reactant speed. This is caused by the length of the separator segment affecting the heat, the shorter the separator segment the more quickly the heat will be absorbed into the evaporation segment by the fuel.
