Abstract

Education is one way to improve the quality of human life. If there is quality education, there must be an update on the teaching staff or so-called teachers so as to produce professional teachers who can deliver and bring quality education. One way to form quality educators is by continuing education at the tertiary level. At one university there must be many choices of majors in several faculties. The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education is one of the faculties at both public and private universities, one of them at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. In the 2016 batch of FKIP UMM students, there were 1029 students. This study aims to examine how the interest of students choosing Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Muhammadiyah Malang 2016 generation. This research is a descriptive quantitative study. The subjects in this study were all 2016 FKIP students with a total of 1029 students with a sample of 91 students. The data collection process in this study used a questionnaire distributed directly to the intended respondent. Data analysis techniques using descriptive techniques with a percentage. The results of the study indicate that it is categorized that intrinsic factor is more dominant with an average percentage of 21.64% than extrinsic actors with an average percentage of 16.01%. This proves that the interest of students to choose Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Muhammadiyah Malang 2016 is more dominantly influenced by intrinsic factors. Overall, students' interest in choosing UMM teacher training and education faculties as many as 7 students (7.7%) had very low interest, 20 students (22.0%) had low interest, 32 students (35.2%) had moderate interest , 27 students (29.7%) had high interest and 5 students (5.5%) had very high interest. The highest frequency is 35.2% which is located in the medium category. The conclusion of the overall research data is the interest of students choosing Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Muhammadiyah Malang 2016 which is in the medium category. Based on the explanation above, there were students who were not entirely interested in choosing the UMM teacher training and education faculty. Suggestions for faculty should improve interview tests so they can find out about students' interests and reasons for choosing FKIP as a place of study.
