Abstract
Background: Pityriasis versicolor is a fungal infection on the skin caused by Malassezia furfur with the highest incidence in tropical countries. Pharmacological treatment of Pityriasis versicolor namely ketoconazole which has the highest severity potentialin causing liver injury so researchers used Aloe vera leaves. Aloe vera leaf extract contains anthraquinone, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids which are thought to act as antifungal agents through different mechanism. Objective : To know the effect of Aloe veraleaf extract to the growth of Malassezia furfurvia in vitro. Methods : Experimental post test only group design, using dilution tubes with Aloe vera extract with concentrations 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.56%, 0.78%, 0.39 % and 0%. Data analyzed using the One Way Anova test and continued with the Post Hoc Games Howel test. Result and Discuss : The results showed that the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) obtained 12.5%, while the Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) obtained 25%. One Way Anova test showed (p = 0,000), which means there was a significant effect due toAloe vera leaf extract. Post Hoc Games Howell Test showed significant results (p <0.05) from 0.78% and goes up which means that the addition of Aloe vera leaf extract could have an effect on the decreasing of M. furfur colonies. Conclusion : Aloe vera leaf extract influence the growth of Malassezia furfur in vitro.
