Abstract

Background: Indonesia was on the 5th world-rank country with the highest number of stunting children. According to the 2013 Baseline Health Research (Riskesdas) data, found that school-age children (6-12 years old) in Indonesia amounted to 31.7% experiencing stunting. Sampang was one of the 100 cities in Indonesia with the largest number of stunting. Karang Anyar Village, one of the villages in Sampang, had the uppermost stunting incidence rate. Stunting was closely related to the level of physical activity of a person. Stunting occurred because of inadequate child growth. This was derived from the delay in bone formation. Increased physical activity could increase osteogenesis or bone formation. Research Objectives: To determine the effect of physical activity level on the incidence of stunting in elementary school children in Karang Anyar Village, Tambelangan District, Sampang, Madura. Research Methods: Observational analytic with Cross Sectional study approach. The sample size were 117 students. Chi Square hypothesis test was continued with the Regression Test. Results and Discussion: Total students in grades 4-6 who met the inclusion criteria were 117 students. The number of stunted students were 29 students (24,8%). 28 Students (96,55%), experiencing stunting, performed low physical activity and only 1 student (3,40%) experiencing stunting, performed high physical activity. The analysis results obtained p = 0.00, and the results of odds ratio shown (OR) 1,204. Conclusion: There was a significant influence between the level of physical activity on the incidence of stunting in elementary school children in Karang Anyar Village, Tambelang District, Sampang, Madura.
