Abstract
Nowadays, many people want to work overseas. Most of them have purpose to be a worker in foreign countries such as; Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Meanwhile to go there, they must have skills. So, all of them register in PJTKI to make their work legally permited. PT Asri Cipta Tenaga Karya is one of PJTKI that have BLK-LN that gives training and educating not only about anything’s which are relate to household bit also gives training some language, includes English as a second language that will be used as a basic communication in those intended countries. So, the workers going abroad should have an ability to speak English. This study concerned with the problems faced by the workers going abroad in learning speaking English at BLK-LN Asri Cipta Tenaga Karya in Singosari Malang. The writer conducted this study because she wanted to describe the problems faced by the workers going abroad in learning speaking English and the ways by them to solve their problems in learning speaking English. In this study, the writer used descriptive research design. The subject of this study was the workers going abroad in class 3 of BLK-LN Asri Cipta Tenaga Karya that is consists of 25 learners. The instruments used to collect the data were structured questionnaires and observation. The result of this study indicated that the problems are related to inhibition, nothing to say, low or uneven participation, mother - tongue use, and speech act, such as; pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency and comprehension. Furthermore, the solutions of the problems done by the workers going abroad are trying and learning to pronouncing certain words, making simple conversation with their friends or their teacher, practicing English everyday and growing self - confidence, and increasing their vocabulary mastery
