Abstract
Background : Katu is a herb that have efficacious in increasing the expulsion mother’s breast milk as the presence of stigmasterols. In this study, katu leaf extract was selected to be developed in the form of tablets for effectiveness in dosage, stability and storing. Objective : This study purposing on determining the effect of PVP K30 1%, 2% and 3% as a binder on the physical quality of katu leaf extract tablets that meet the requirements. Method : Katu leaf extract was utilized with kinetic maceration by 70% ethanol as its solvent. The tablets were made by wet granulation method by PVP K30 as its binder. The tablets were examinated with physical quality examination includes hardness, friability, and disintegration time. Futhermore, analyzed statistically. Result and conclusions : The result indicated that PVP K30 increased levels was obtained in increasing the hardness and disintegration time, and decrease tablets friability. Statistical analyzed showed that there’s a significant difference between the hardness formulas and tablets disintegration. Meanwhile, the significant difference in terms of friability with PVP K30 2% and 3% levels. From this study, katu leaf tablets extract formulas with levels of concentration 1% was selected as an optimum formula that meets the requirements.
