This research made based on phenomenon of Chinese tradition in respecting and meaning a family there at film “The Photograph”. Chinese tradition was performed in this film has many kind of symbolism. Therefore, researcher interested to break the tradition meaning of Chinese people there at film “The Photograph”, especially related with meaning a family in their culture. This research was expected can add insight of others people in meaning the important rule of family. Chinese people interpret their family as base of disciplinary and peace community. They have many kind of tradition to respect their family both of still alive or have passed away. This caused by their tight tie to family member or their ancestors. In the film “The Photograph” told about life a Chinese born has name Mr. Johan. He has to sincere losing his wife and his daughter. This was caused of the hard life pressured. Mr. Johan could not defray his family life so that he went to leaves. Knowing it, Mrs. Johan took decision to commit suicide with her daughter. After the event, Mr. Johan decides to make three desires that must be fulfilled before died. The three desires have purposed to atone for his mistakes in the past.This research used semiotic approach of Roland Barthez. By doing signification approach of two phases namely denotative and connotative. Features of semiotic approach of Roland Barthez is on myth formed after signaling system so that it can be new signal that has the second signal which new signal of construction or on the other word the first signal is language, the second is myth. Data collection technique used in this research is by analyzing then interpreted divisions of scene from film “The Photograph”. The research result in film “The Photograph” is by take 6 scenes related with meaning a Chinese family. The scenes taking in this research is scene 1, scene 39, scene 46 and scene 102. These scenes descript admiration type to family in Chinese people tradition. From these scenes is able to be concluded that meaning a family through Chinese tradition that performed in this film: Chinese people means a family as a motivation to reach much money by work hard, tradition in subjected dust of ancestors represents one of their devotion type to family and implementation of tradition in Chinese people is a confirmation to social environment to shows their position and status.
