Abstract

Mangoes have a relatively low shelf life of 3 days. One way to prevent and extend the shelf life of mangoes is by coating or using Edible coating methods. The use of edible coatings can use natural materials such as banana peel waste which contains several components that can prevent damage to the fruit. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of concentration of kapok banana peel extract (Musa acuminate balbisiana) and the duration of storage on the quality of mangoes (Mangifera Indica) as an ingredient for developing Biological Learning Resources for Video Material for Waste Utilization for Class X High School. 3%, 5%, 7% and 9% and the length of storage used for days 3, 6 and 9. This study uses true experimental using a complete randomized design (CRD) sample of 15 using 2x repetition and data analysis used namely anova two way. The results of this study showed that there was an effect of higher concentration, the weight loss and the intensity of fruit defects were getting smaller, as well as the length of storage affecting fruit shrinkage and disability intensity 9% concentration, but the sig value of interaction> 0.05 between the concentration of banana peel extract and the old storage so that said the interaction of the two treatments did not affect the shrinkage of fruit weight or the intensity of disability.
