Abstract

Phenomena that occur in society today said that more men doubt women, because man more positively assessed than with women. Patriarchal culture which assumes that man has higher rank than women taking part in weakening the voice of women legislators. But now the position of women has changed and be aware of their identity, existence of women in legislative politics becomes a think that seems contrary to public opinion in general based on these problems, the purpose of this study was to determine differences in male students and female students about the ability of women to be members of the legislature. This study uses quantitative comparative approach, with independent variable male students andfemale students, and the dependent variable of perception. The population in this research is the student of Faculty of Law 2007­2008 University Muhammadiyah of Malang force numbered 407 students with a sample of 70 students by the division of 35 male students and 35 female students. The sampling technique used in this study is the random sampling. The research instrument used in this study is the Likert scale and techniques of data analysis using t­test. Based on test result t­test (t= 11,665 ; sig/p= 0,000), indicating that there are differences in student perception of male and female students about women’s ability to become a significant member of the legislature, where the perception of male students (x1= 62,11) were more negative than female students (x2= 80,06).
