Abstract

This research study aims to determine: 1) the implementation of Strengthening Character Education (SCE) based on the school culture at SMPN 21 Kota Malang, and 2) the role of school in supporting the implementation of SCE based on school culture at SMPN 21 Kota Malang. The method used in this study is qualitative analysis supported by descriptive data. Sources of data obtained from interviews, observation and document analysis. Data collection techniques used passive participation observation, interviews, and document studies. Data analysis techniques during this study used Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis models, namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. From the result of the research, researcher concludes that: 1) the preparation stages for SCE implementation are based on the module and guideline issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture, starts with: determining SCE values, compiling SCE schedules, designing Education Unit Level Curricula (EULC), evaluating school regulations, and the socialization process. The implementation of PPK has to do through routine, spontaneous, exemplary, and conditioning activities. 2) the school accomplish its role through provide facilities and infrastructure that supports programs; co-curricular and extracurricular, also flagship activities containing SCE values; evaluation efforts to find out the success of the program; and involves the role of student guardians in instilling the character of students. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the implementation of SCE based on school culture at SMPN 21 Malang has been well implemented, and schools have enormous potential to develop the existing character values.
