Abstract

Simbukan leaves (Paederia foetida) can be used as inhibitors of Escherichia coli bacterial growth because they contain active compounds namely alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and phenols, which have the ability to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of simbukan leaf extract on inhibition zones of Escherichia coli bacteria and to determine the effect of simbukan leaf extract on inhibition zones of Escherichia coli bacteria can be used as a source of biology learning for high school class X. The parameter used is the diameter of the clear zone that forms around the disk disk. This type of research is a pure experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments, namely concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 80% based on determining the concentration based on implementation not based on preliminary tests, with 4 replications. The population in this study is simbukan leaves. The samples in this study were simbukan leaves in the form of simplicia. The data analysis technique used is the Kruskal Wallis Test, Mann Whitney then continued with Duncan's further test. The results showed that there was an effect of giving simbukan leaf extract to the inhibition zone of Escherichia coli bacteria, from the Duncan test results at a concentration of 40%, had the most efficient effect on the inhibition zone of Escherichia coli bacteria, because the inhibition zone formed was the largest. The conclusion of this research is that the effect of giving extracts of simbukan leaves on the inhibition zone of Escherichia coli bacteria that is at a concentration of 40% has the most effective effect. This research can be used as a learning resource for class X biology in KD 3.5, KD 4.5, and KD 4.1.
