Abstract

Figurative language often appears in every literaly work and is used by writers to get special meanings and effetcs. It deals with imaginative and creative writing. There are many studies related to analysis of figurative language in the literaly work such novel, song, poem, etc. Furthemore, in learning process, the analysis of figurative language in poem and song is more often implemented than the analysis of figurative language in the movie. There are many figurative languages that can be found from the movie. The purposes of this study are divided into two parts. The first purpose is to (1) find out the types of figurative language used in “Alice in Wonderland” movie. (2) The second pupose is to explain the meanings of figurative language in “Alice in Wonderland” movie. The approach of this study was qualitative research since it was designed to get information about the types of figurative language in “Alice in Wonderland” movie and its meanings. Meanwhile, the technique used in this study were content analysis technique. The data was taken from the script of two characters Alice (Protagonist) and Red Queen (Antagonist) in “Alice in Wonderland” movie from the beginning until the end of the movie. The researcher was supported by the document script of the “Alice in Wonderland” movie. This result of the research showed that there were ten figurative languages which are: allegory, hyperbole, idiom, irony, metonymy, metaphor, onomatopeia, oxymoron, personification, and simile for fourty-two utterances. The most dominat figurative language used in this movie was Idiom with thirteen utterances. Besides, the researcher also found the different meaning of each language according to its context and situation when it is said.
