Abstract

The use of sweet oranges as a natural remedy for lowering LDL cholesterol because one of the ingredients in sweet oranges is hesperidin in the form of specific flavonoids. Flavonoids in orange juice can reduce LDL cholesterol levels because flavonoids function as antioxidants that can fight lipid oxidation in LDL cholesterol. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sweet orange juice as a natural remedy for lowering LDL cholesterol levels in the blood of white rats and as a learning resource that can be used by teachers to conduct teaching and learning. This type of research is True Experimental Research with The Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. This study uses several levels of administration to find out what is the right level of administration to reduce levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood of white rats. The levels of administration given were 3 ml, 5 ml, 7 ml and 9 ml. The technical analysis used is ANCOVA and Duncan's follow-up test. This research was conducted from April to May 2019 in the Biomedical Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The results of this study indicate that the level of administration of sweet orange juice that can reduce LDL cholesterol levels is 9 ml. The results of this research can be used as a source of learning biology in KD 4.6 class XI semester II.
