Abstract

Korean drama is currently being broadcast on television stations. Almost every day television shows Korean-themed programs. Therefore, researchers are interested in wanting to see how k-drama hyper reality is a student’s lifestyle. The hipereality of k-drama fans is a phenomenon where fans make their idol’s a referencein their lives. K-drama fans lose their awareness of their original reality where it then creates pseudo reality because of the simulation and also the big role of the mass media that can influence fans opinion. In the hipereality space fans will represent thenselves as crazy and willing to do all kinds of ways for their idols. This research uses a case study research with a qualitative approach, and uses a subject determination technique that is purposive sampling. This research applies data collection methods using observation, interview, and documentation. The hipereality of k-drama fans occurs because of simulation from friends and mass media. Friends and mass media are able to influence individual opinions which then arouse interest to find out hallyu wave especially k-drama. Fans will be constructed that what is displayed by the media is an authentic or real reality while on the hand the media is able to eliminate original reality and reproduce it into a false reality that is easily consumed by the public, so k-drama fans will faithfully do everything they can to support their idols.
