Abstract

Language style is a form of verbal comunication derived from ideas of the mind conveyed in the form of arguments. Ideas of thought and argument presented can be used as a form of a person characteristics. Characteristic style of laguage can be made as a bencmark for the quality of language mastery used when comunicating. The use of language style taken by the researcher is ini conversation debate pemilihan calon gubernur Jawa Timur 2018, debate conservation is taken because it is adapted to the research taken adn relates to the problems taken by researchers. Problems that arise lack of publick understanding of a debate statment. Debate is a form of submitting the arguments of someone who has a different problem. Based on the previous things, the research problems are (1) the form of rhetorical language style within the 2018 debate of East Java governor’s election. (2) The form of figurative language within the 2018 debate of East Java governor’s election. The research method used by researchers is descriptive analysis using a stylistical approach. The data source in this study is a video and transcript of the conversations of the 2018 East Java governor candidate's election debate. The data found was processed through several steps namely, (1) data collection (2) data analysis (3) data presentation. This research was carried out through several procedures of preparation, introduction, data analysis and conclusions. Based on this process, several forms of language style were found by candidate pair of governor number one Khofifah, Emil and number two Gus Ipul, Puti Soekarno, among them were the form of rhetorical style and figurative linguistic style in the 2018 East Java candidate gubernatorial candidate election. Based on the results and discussion, it was concluded that in the first debate on the election of the governor of East Java in 2018, two forms of linguistic style were found based on whether direct or not meaningful, rhetorical and figurative language styles. The form of rhetorical style is used by the pair number one and two with the aim to invite and influence someone to gain confidence in winning the debate. As for the figurative language style, this is used by pairs of numbers one and two to provide an argument form that emphasizes a matter and conveys a comparison.
