Abstract

Kenaf fiber is a natural fiber that has potential because this plant are easily cultivated in the tropics area. Acasia wood powders is a waste that can’t be used optimally. Both charactertistics of this material are lightweight but strong will be used as fillers. Then kenaf fiber and acasia wood powders are combined with epoxy adhesive that will be used as matrix. To make an alternative material, this study aims to explain the percentage comparison between kenaf fiber and acacia wood powders toward the tensile and impact strength and its effect. Composit materials are expected to produce the newest and the best material from its old materials. The method of this study is experimental research or True Experiment Research. The making of materials were used by comparing the volume fraction ratio of kenaf fiber and acacia wood powders from 0:4%, 1:3%, 2:2%, dan 3:1% with hand lay-up process. This test used ASTM D638 standard to testing the tensile strengh, and ASTM D625 to test the impact strength. The results from tensile strength obtained the highest tensile strength were 39,935 MPa from volume fraction ratio 3:1%, and the lowest tensile strength were 21.281 MPa. The highest impact strength were 0,01575 Joule/mm2 from volue fraction ratio 2:2%, the lowest impact strength were 0,00967 Joule/mm2. This study can be concluded that there is an effect from acacia wood powders toward mechanical value of the composite.
