Abstract

Conditions in the field indicate that there are still some students who have difficulty in expressing a problem in the picture, some students do not understand that mathematical symbols are unknown values so that they cannot express problems into mathematical symbols and some students are difficult to answer about using his own language. So there needs to be an analysis of the mathematical communication skills of students of distance, time and speed material. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of students on distance, time and speed material in class V SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang. This study uses qualitative research and uses a type of descriptive approach. As a source of data, selected fifth grade students of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang in the 2019/2020 school year totaly 27 students. This research was conducted in October 2019. The results showed that the drawing criteria on average students get a score of 4, which means that on the drawwing criteria students can state the problem in the form of pictures. In the criteria of mathematical expression mathematical expression most students cannot write mathematical symbols in solving problem problems, it is evident from the percentage of students' ability who are able in mathematical expression criteria which is only 22.22%. And in the criterion of writing answers in their own language written text students who are able to write answers using their own language with little relevance, most students cannot write answers using their own language
